Our students are mostly low socioeconomic status. They are very diverse; about 33% Black, 33% White, and 33% Latino. I call it rurban because it is rural and urban. A lot of parents do factory work second shift so our students are caring for siblings when they get home from school.
I am a co-sponsor of an organization called LDA - Leadership Development Academy.
I just found this book that will give us some great lessons and activities to encourage our students to become activists in our community. I would like 30 copies of this book for the children to have and use for a book study.
We have a daunting task ahead of us - making this world more equitable. This book will give our students activities and challenges to teach them how to really make a difference in their own communities. We will use this book to do a book study and complete the activities together. The way to start world peace is one community at a time.
There are activities to help them learn who they are, where they came from and how they can move forward making a difference in our community.
It is important to teach our students ways to resist in ways that the people in power will be open and listening.
