This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Even middle school students want to be successful learners for a bright future regardless of their current situation. My sixth graders want to be winners in life. Many students have experienced setbacks and trauma but need to feel as if their life matters. They need to know that when they walk into my classroom that it is a safe, nurturing, and loving environment. It is filled with opportunities for them to learn, grow, and make their dreams become a reality!
My Project
Although a list was sent home at the beginning of the school year, many students did not have basic supplies to start out the school year. Now they are desperately in need of these supplies to bring them through the rest of the school year. Materials such as binders, composition books, pens, pencils, and erasers will be helpful as students need them replenished. Often, some supplies will get lost, damaged or go missing. Some students go to the library after school until parents get home, or live between two homes so materials are misplaced easily as they continue to work on their organization skills. Students will sometimes misplace basic supplies for a couple of weeks and will need replacement materials until they locate these items. Learners can be much more productive when they have the tools they need to learn.
An Apple Magic Trackpad will be used by the teacher and students.
Since Google Classroom is being used and students will be presenting work, the Trackpad is helpful because it is able to control the Smartboard from anywhere in the room. All these materials will be used for TDA writing binders with dividers for each month and pens to write and pens to edit writing with a peer or teacher. The composition books will be used for both ELA and SOC for Do Nows, Writer’s Notebook entries, and to write responses to comprehension questions.
