Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my mathematics classroom, we learn math in the context of living in the reality of our lives and community. It is exciting, challenging, and very rewarding to teach middle school math to my students. They are passionate advocates for themselves and immensely challenged by the circumstances they face. Many are new immigrants, English language learners, and from low-income families and neighborhoods. Often they come in believing that math is not relevant to their lives. Some of them have harsh realities and challenges just surviving, let alone thriving.
They inspire me to be my best and to raise my capacities to inspire them to work hard and learn that they can master learning, master math, and thrive in this world with consistent focused work.
I am not satisfied with the status quo and that is what I work to inspire in them. The rewards of making a difference with these students really hit home and left me moved and inspired. I find myself often crying when I am really being with them.
My Project
Thanks to our past donors we already have a Microsoft Surface Pro 7, now we need the Purple Protective Case, Bluetooth keyboard, and some Expo clickable black markers to go to the white board to present their discoveries from the field. Students are quite comfortable with technology, they have been using it their whole life.
Empower young Mathematicians to go out of the classroom with powerful technology that is well protected and easy to hold and use.
Imagine seeing a bunch of middle school students out of the classroom taking polls, gathering data and recording directly on to the touch-pad. Now imagine them coming back to the classroom and writing up their observations and hypothesis with the mobile Bluetooth keyboard.
Now see them at the whiteboard which is Huge in my classroom collaborating and presenting their findings to their classmates with their Expo Dry Erace Click markers. You are seeing the future generation hard at work.
