Microscopic Mysteries

My students need new microscopes to replace the ones that are from the early 1980's and those that are non-functional!

My Students

Save our eyes! Looking through microscopes from the 1980's is extremely difficult and often hard to differentiate between a specimen and a scratch on the lens. With limited funds, it is hard to replace this costly yet extremely important life-science equipment.

I teach at a high school in a high poverty area located in a historic seaport of South Carolina.

Although funding is scarce, the academic competitiveness in the school is extremely high. This year I will be teaching AP Biology in which my students will all be juniors that are on track to attend a four year institution of higher learning upon graduation. With AP Biology on their plate this year, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide the students with a true college-level science course experience. The students will learn the rigor and self-direction that is required to be successful in college. At the end of this course, the students will be ready to take on any college-level science course that they may take in the future.

My Project

The two microscopes requested in this project will be used by the students in AP Biology as well as my CP Biology classes to examine and analyze various different specimens under the microscope. The microscopes are a starting point in replacing the older, non-functional microscopes we have dating back to 1982.

By donating to this project, you will be providing the students with the necessary technology and up-to-date equipment to perform their lab experiences.

These microscopes will allow the students to easily perform their lab experiments and view the necessary specimens with ease.
