Help me give my students the microscopes they need to use in the science classroom. Not only will my students in 7th and 8th grade use these but also all students in 9th-12th grade science in our building.
The middle & high school science and robotics classes are a place for excitement and laughter while challenging students to always strive for improvement. The majority of my students come from single parent, low income homes where they are often the ones taking care of themselves and siblings. This reflects the 78% of students on free or reduced-price lunches. Despite these hardships they are facing at home, my classroom is a safe haven for all students, as I provide a classroom where they can become life-long learners.
These are my students who I challenge and love every single day.
My students are an active group who like to move and do hands-on STEM labs. They become the teachers to their peers in our classroom. In the science and robotics class we do lots of hands-on projects and coding. They love positive attention and praise, and this is why our classroom is built on positive encouragement and attention. We build each other up and celebrate successes and encourage those who fall short at times of performing their best! I am hopeful my students will learn to treat others with respect, encourage others, and strive to always improve themselves in all area
My Project
Our Middle School and High School could really use our own set of microscopes for the science classrooms to use. This year, we borrowed microscopes from a local college because of the importance for our students to get the hands-on experience with using scientific materials. It was great being able to borrow the microscopes for two or three weeks but that also made it different for all teachers to get the chance to really allow the students to learn with them.
Students need the ability to use hands-on science materials to be able to learn.
In our building we have three science teachers that would share the microscopes. Once teacher that has 7th and 8th grade, one teacher that has 9th and 10th grade for Biology and Physical Science, and then the third teaches 11th and 12th graders for Chemistry and College Prep science classes. Microscopes would be a great addition to our science classroom lab materials.
