My students need 5 student microscopes so they can see science come alive, and 1 digital projector scope to allow me to facilitate labs with students of all ages!
With only a few working microscopes in my class, we have not been able to conduct experiments or capitalize on the hands-on learning that scope labs can provide. I can't wait to see the students learn by doing in a proper lab environment!
My students are accelerated learners and normal kids wrapped into one!
I teach in a gifted environment, where kids are avid readers, inquisitive, and high energy (as all kids are!). Keeping these students challenged and giving them opportunities to go beyond the pages and dive deeper into their studies is imperative for gifted education. We are in our very first year as a dedicated gifted school and we have great expectations! We are really excited to be building out a science lab to support our philosophy that immersive learning environments are crucial to supporting gifted kids and important for all kids.
With a full set of microscopes and a teacher projection scope, my students will be able to manage and run their own lab stations. I can guide them and facilitate their learning by using my scope to project their route, but the best part is that they are learning by doing, seeing, and setting up a lab by themselves. We are big on teamwork in my school, teaching students to work in groups and collaborative projects are a big plus in helping them prepare to be leaders in the real-world environment. Having a well-equipped science lab has a inherent sense of purpose, process, and structure. When the students partner up to run successful labs, they are also practicing critical life-skills on top of the scientific process!
Our goal is to provide an environment of excellence, technology, and rich learning opportunity for a group of thirsty learners and their peers.
In my classroom, I use science and the natural world to help students think critically, work within structure, and be creative when given boundaries. Science, and all the miracles waiting to be discovered each year, is a medium of inspiration that I hope each of my students is touched by in some way.
