Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are energetic, imaginative, and creative 5 and 6-year-olds. They arrive at school eager to learn and ready for the challenges of the day!
I teach in an urban elementary school in which all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
I want to provide opportunities for channeling their energy for learning in a safe classroom environment. Having opportunites to engage with developmentally appropriate materials to experience science is one way to create curiosity in kindergarten students. Exploring and building confidence in science while using developementally appropriate materials will increase a love of science and lead to creating curiosity in other academic areas as well.
My Project
The microscopes will enable my curious kindergarten scientists to explore in a developmentally apppropriate way! By including the microscopes in our science center, along with the specimen slides, my always questioning kindergartners can develop critical thinking skills when engaging with these materials.
The microscopes and science viewers will provide visual examples to encourage further exploration of science themes and lead to their understanding and knowledge about the topic.
This will help lead to independent learning and explorlation.
Incorporating the early view science specimens in our kindergarten classroom will help create an understanding of the many different types of plants and animal life.
