I have some of the most amazing students. They work so hard for very little. At a Title I school performing arts are often overlooked and that is definitely the case in my school. While we have some amazing support from people within our school, my students rarely see support coming from Administration or from the District, but every day they show up to rehearsal/ class ready to work and learn. They are constantly amazing me and I am proud to be their teacher. Every day, I struggle to provide them the supplies they need to have a well-rounded theatre experience. We currently perform in the library, which is ill-equipped and with very little funds to support our program, we struggle to pay for new equipment. My students never let this get them down, they always hold their heads high and always put their best foot forward despite adversity.
My Project
My students want so badly to be heard when on the stage. Being at a Title I school our auditorium is a stage in a library. The acoustics in the library are not the best, so the sound is swallowed when students speak on stage. I am requesting 3 microphones, a headphone jack converter, and dmx cables for our upcoming productions. Not only will students be heard, but they will get the opportunity to work with and learn how to use a system that is used commonly in theatre environments. As our program progresses, I hope to continue to add microphones to our rotation, but it is important to purchase a piece of equipment that is durable and long-lasting.
