This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach Read 180 to 7th and 8th graders. This is a new program that has inspired most of my students to improve their reading levels.
Read 180 is a needed program for students who have given up on reading and need to be inspired. It is the "hook" that will improve their grades, standardized tests, and reading scores. The Read 180 program consists of three parts: a computer station, silent reading area, and small group (work with teacher on reading skills) station. The computer part of Read 180 teaches fluency and comprehension practice. My students must have headsets to complete the reading practice. They also need books of all types and interests for fluency practice.
My classroom needs 20 headset/microphone combo units. We also need multiple books from the 4th grade to 8th grade reading levels. The Read 180 program will not be successful without these components!
You will help empower children to read and learn. You will help a child feel good and gain the confidence to be a life-long learner! Reading is essential to education and life. We are building our future leaders of America one book at a time.
