I am grateful to have received a wonderful binocular microscope through Donors Choose last year. The students in my class are thrilled to have this wonderful opportunity to pursue the study of science in a way never before imagined. They have learned the parts of the microscope and their respective functions; how to handle and care for the microscope; and how this technology enlarges items in greater detail.
Now they are ready for the next step: to examine prepared slides and to prepare their own slides. Before long, we will embark on an in depth study of the human body. It would be fantastic if the students had some already prepared slides to view, as well as the opportunity to make their own slides, using their own cells! I have come across some terrific on line instructions for preparing slides, which my students could easily follow with some instruction. Preparing their own slides would also allow my students to guide their own learning as they prepare for our school-wide science fair in late May. I would be once again grateful if someone could help us out with this project.
I teach all subjects in a third grade class, with a heavy focus on science, particularly biology. (We have a variety of plants, plus a class turtle, gerbil and earthworms-- all ready to be examined.) There are 40 third graders- plus other grades that could benefit from these slides and microscope at our school.

Having a quality education with quality materials will help these disadvantaged students play on an equal playing field as they grow up and acclimate to this country.
