Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My eighth-grade cluster is made up of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. My students continue to work hard each year and thrive in a learning environment that nurtures creativity.
Healthy students learn more!
Over 43% of the students in my cluster are classified as ELL (English Language Learners), and another 30% are classified as special needs. Even with these hurdles, my kids work hard to find success in the classroom. Additionally, over 80% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. This means that many do not have the basic supplies that we generally take for granted.
My Project
Coding is a valuable part of teaching in today's world. I am currently using Code.org with my students to give them some basic exposure, but I am hoping to give them some exposure to the Microbit with Microbit.
Working with my students in an online environment this year has required a lot more creativity to keep them engaged and keep the lessons new and fresh.
My students will not be able to use the robotics kits we have at school during distance learning. These Microbit kits will allow my students to practice coding with me virtually through Microsoft Maker Code online. Students could pick up the projects at school and continue physical computing assignments at home. Students can share their projects with each other to help foster social and emotional learning. These hands-on kits will engage my students during distance learning! I can't wait to get started!
