Wilson Early College Academy (WECA) is a public high school located in Wilson, North
Carolina that offers mostly first generation college students and at-risk students an opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree with no out of pocket expenses in four or five years.
WECA has been an immense success with most students graduating and going on to a four-year university. WECA's Science department has big ideas and very little funding available. Students lead funded projects to support scientific investigations into areas of interest so that they can learn as big as they can dream!
We are requesting the microbiology kits so we can explore the things that we cannot see with the naked eye. With the kits we do hands-on experiments with our groups which teaches us teamwork. These kits will help us to explore the different levels of microbiology such as cells, spread of disease, and molecules. This will help to grow our knowledge of the amazing microbiology!
In Their Own Words
We are trying to discover and do hands-on experiments dealing with microbiology. This will help to shape our minds and discovering weather we would want to have a career in microbiology in the future. At this school, there is a lot of students eager to learn more about the madness of microbiology!
With these kits we will work together to figure out a solution to the problems. We share our different ideas with each other and make sure everybody gets a chance to talk. This builds our leadership skills so when we go into college we know how to work with all types of people.
Our school would greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn more about microbiology and its many different types. Since our school is fairly new, we don't have all of the materials to do extra hands-on experiences with the class. This will help us to work together, and do experiments while having fun at the same time.
