My Students

I teach English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science to middle schoolers (6-8) at a Hutterite Colony where English is their second language. During the school day, these young students attend German school before and after regular English school. Not only do they have German schoolwork, but English schoolwork as well. They are eager to learn new things whether academically or non-academically. They enjoy discussing current events and creating beautiful, hand-made greeting cards. These middle schoolers are so gracious and appreciative of the smallest things.

Hutterites are very humble and do not like attention drawn to them.

Seldom do they have their pictures taken as it is not part of their culture. Therefore, my classroom photo does not have students in it to honor their culture.

My Project

At my Hutterite school we tend to get the hand-me-downs. We were excited when my students received laptops for computer class as well as for class projects and curriculum apps. However, the built in mouse is sticky, difficult to maneuver, and is sensitive that if you touch it a little bit you get a wrong answer.

A hand-held mouse allows more control for the students to accurately and quickly maneuver the cursor around the class project or curriculum app.

These mice would ease the stress and frustration my students incur using their laptops.
