Our students come from all over the world and attend MHS. So to be able to provide them with an opportunity worthy of their transition through the beautiful game of baseball is very important to us. Most of our students come from Iraq, Iran, Malaysia and Puerto Rico, where they have not been able to dream and enjoy being a teenager because they've been learning how to survive everyday life.
MHS is in an area which is made up of families from all over the world seeking a better opportunity to build, grow and develop in a way that wasn't possible in their hometown.
MHS is, and has been, a staple in this community since 1959 and has given many students and families an opportunity to be a part of "Something Special". This is something we continue to strive towards with each school year, especially through sports.
My Project
The 2018-2019 season was my first year as head varsity baseball coach at MHS and it was my most rewarding one as well. Our entire program was made up of 9 players from the ages of 14-17 years old. The playing experience and knowledge amongst this group ranged from absolutely none all the way up to a couple years yet they still gave everything to this baseball program. Last year I paid $2,500 of my own money to get my team their hoodies, BP tops and t-shirts, and I’d do it all over again IF I only had 9 players. This year for the 2019-2020 season we will have 17 kids suiting up for our varsity baseball team and that is a direct reflection of those first 9 that busted their behinds last year to show that we CAN and WILL compete! I want our program to look and feel like a legitimate program with new equipment to include baseballs, bats, and batting helmets. I want them to experience what it feels like to be looked at and looked up to. I want them to be “BIG DOG” because they’ve earned “BIG DOG”. My goal with any athlete that allows me into their life is to help them to build, grow and develop into a strong and positive role model for any young child to look to and look for when they need guidance, love and care. My passion has become SHOWING my athletes an example to learn from while I continue learning myself as opposed to TELLING them and acting as if I’m done learning altogether. If there’s anything you or anyone you know can do to help with our cost this season please donate and pass this along.
