Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is quite diverse both economically and demographically. Our school has a wide range of student abilities and, with 125 students on the running team, the task of meeting all of their individual needs and interests grows in difficulty.
Our students at DJAES have amazing athletic talent and a keen interest in new experiences.
Our running club is a place where students can challenge their physical education skills. What I love most about our students is their interest in perseverance. They want to push themselves, increase stamina, they want to PERSEVERE.
Our goal is for our running team to be a place students can be inspired to persevere and develop new running skills.
My Project
I am a coach for the running team at our school. Our team will practice every week to build their stamina to complete a marathon (or 1/2 marathon). Students are divided into K-2 and 3-5 for one hour trainings per week. Students will not only run and track their distance and time, but will also participate in tag games to help motivate students of a variety of ages to persevere.
Since kindergarten through fifth graders will be participating, we need a variety of equipment to strengthen their stamina, agility, and coordination.
Jumping rope, tag games, and chinese jump rope are just a few excellent exercises to assist with these skills.
