My students come from a city of about fifty thousand people.
They have been raised in an environment that is best described as a mix between rural and moderately urban.
Some hunt and fish while others go to the plaza to hang out.
We have a large population of underprivileged and economically-disadvantaged students. They are geographically isolated from the rest of the world by two thousand miles of ocean, but have all the quirks and mannerisms of many children their age. Our school has been striving to make them college and career ready by providing the technology and resources they will need to survive in this modern age.
My Project
Students will be using these items to cut and grind metal before welding. This year the students will be learning how to use the shielded Metals Arc Welding process, commonly known as stick welding. Students will be making what is commonly referred to as welding coupons or 4 inch by 6 inch by 3/8 inch think flat bar stock. This bar stock is what students use to practice welding beads or bead pads. This is a process were the students practice starting an arc and running a bead along the 6 inch length of the welding coupon. This helps the students practice the basic techniques for stick welding.
