My students are excited to learn about music and I'm excited to teach them! We do a lot of singing, moving, listening, and instrument playing in the music room, but my students don't have an opportunity to play melodic instruments (like the metallophones I'm requesting) because we don't have many!
I teach in a mid-size, diverse district with students that are full of energy and life!
The K-5 student population that I teach come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. They are excited to come to music class and hunger for the opportunity to play instruments and learn! As I've introduced them to the few melodic instruments we have, the students are so excited to learn more about them and play them!
My Project
The ability to use Orff Instruments (metallophones) in the music classroom will enable my students to accompany themselves while singing and performing, create new and exciting music (that they can learn to write!), and enrich the existing curriculum. These instruments help show students how they can work together to all participate in a musical ensemble and help students develop leadership, creativity, and musical skills. Plus, they are fun to play and students love them!! Students will enhance both their aural skills and note reading skills using these instruments. Because they're simple enough to play, students feel successful very quickly, yet by combining different simple ostinato together, an aurally pleasing and fairly complex accompaniment can be created.
As a music educator, I strive to use music as a way for students to better connect with themselves and other people.
I strive to use music as a way to tap into student's innate leadership abilities, creative outlets, and aesthetic beauty. By donating money to this project, you can help continue to excite students about music and help them continue to fall in love with it.
