I've taught Honors English at M High School in Gilbert, Arizona for the past 13 years. This year, I teach Freshman Honors English and Senior Dual Credit ENG 101/102 through Chandler/Gilbert Community College. My students are driven, hard working, thoughtful, creative, and engaging people who will change the world.
My seniors have spent the year learning how to balance the rhetorical techniques to writing persuasive, argumentative essays.
We have completed a college portfolio project where they have researched and applied to three colleges, written application essays, applied for scholarships, and looked into the letter of recommendation process. They've applied for the FAFSA and begun to get their acceptance letters! I am so PROUD of them!
My freshmen are pretty awesome too! We've gotten them accustomed to the rigor and expectation of honors-level high school courses. Our year's theme is Coming of Age, and it's been fun to see them grow.
My Project
We are making a difference by inspiring young writers. They need the space to spread out and be inspired. They need the space to collaborate and think. They need to focus on their futures and get college ready.
This space will be their safe haven to explore and grow as writers.
This flexible seating will grant them the autonomy to choose seats and give them healthy options such as the bouncing balls and standing desks. The white boards will enable greater collaboration. We have a family vibe in here and this will add to building our community while making it fun and exciting.
