Help me give my students a collection of fossils from the geologic eras that my classroom rock and fossil collection is lacking in throughout the Mesozoic and Cenozoic Era.
Although many of my students come from a diverse background, one thing that they all seem to have in common is that they are naturally attracted to hands-on inquiry based learning, especially if it pertains to science.
With the adoption of the NGSS science standards, my students absolutely do love being engaged in hands-on inquiry based science projects that challenges them and gets them to think outside of the box.
Because of this, my classroom is always in need of more science equipment to facilitate this true project-based/problem-based learning.
Currently my classroom has rock samples dating back to the late Hadean Era, early Precambrian fossils such as stromatolites and jellyfish, as well as a wide variety of fossils from each period of the Paleozoic Era. But with only having a few samples, the geologic eras that my classroom rock and fossil collection is lacking in are with samples throughout the Mesozoic and Cenozoic Era.
My Project
As an science educator, I am a firm believer in the best way for students to learn science is to experience science. As part of my curriculum, I start students back in the Hadean Era, and then walk them through with hands-on inquiry-based discoveries through all of the geologic time.
