My Students

The weather station is for our MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement)leadership students. MESA is a national program geared toward inspiring kids to enter STEM occupations (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The target population is girls, minorities, and first generation college kids.

Our students are Fifth Graders in a public school in Colorado where weather changes minute by minute.

We meet weekly before school to study various science projects such a bulb studies, soil samples, drought tolerant plants, and even food production. Our students are curious learners who are dedicated to our environment and our MESA program at school.

My Project

My students need a wireless weather station for our square foot garden project on our own school roof. Students will collect weather statistics to be interpreted, analyzed, graphed, and compared.Having a weather station will allow us to gather our own data from our own school rooftop. This will inspire the kids because they will be using equipment at school rather than from outside sources. MESA leadership kids will be their own meteorologists!

In addition to posting our weather data on our school website it will also be uploaded to national weather websites.

This will allow students to compare our local weather to weather around the world. Our students will grow to better understand the impact of weather on their community and our gardens.
