My students, 10th, 11th and 12th graders, attend a public high school, and the majority of students, approximately 50%, live in poverty. We are a small school of less than 600 and approximately 60% of the students are open enrollment, leading to less funding from the state.
We have a diverse population of students, as many students from the big city seek our school for greater opportunities.
When given the right tools, my students are excited to learn and grow. They are amazing! They are the future.
My Project
The supplies for this project will provide our mentors with the materials to create a “camping themed” orientation for our incoming 9th graders. 9th grade orientation (Ignite Day) is created by the junior and senior mentors, and the materials they need to be successful in this endeavor are what this project is all about.
By providing students with bandanas, they will be able to easily group the mentors and mentees.
The backdrop and photo props will provide a great memory opportunity. The lights, campfire cutouts, tablecloths, and other decor will help to create a fun atmosphere. This project will allow our mentor students to create a memorable experience at orientation for the class of 2023.
