Our students come from low-income families where parents work many hours to make a living. Sometimes the parents may work seven days a week with not much time to spend with their families. Parents are invited to interact with mentors as well to assure the student has a loving, caring relationship with another adult.
Our children receive free breakfast and lunch daily at school.
Most of our students live with many families to one apartment, making it difficult for parents to connect with their children. This is where the idea of a mentor program was born!
Our students are deserving of a program like a mentor program because it matches them with a special staff member who will take the time to get to know the students´ strengths and weaknesses. Mentors can provide a safe place for students to unwind and relate to another individual on a personal level. They feel like they are loved and truly cared for in a special way so the begin to flourish socially, emotionally, and academically.
Our mentor program allows students who are in need of a positive role model. Having the snacks and crafts will give the students and their mentors a chance to bond as they enjoy a quick snack and create beautiful crafts together!
Many of our students go home to babysitters or absent parents who are hard at work trying to provide for their families.
Having a special adult to bond with at school can change the life of a child! It can give them hope and help them dream of how far they can go in this world!
Our mentor program will have a scheduled meeting once a month. The mentor will bring their mentee to a designated meeting space to enjoy snacks and create a beautiful craft together. This gives the mentor a chance to create memories and bond with a child who may have challenges at home or at school.
