Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

D Montessori is a k-8 campus with its fundamental teaching approach aligning with the Montessori instructional style being our focus. Most of our 6th grade students have been with the Montessori program since they entered Kindergarten. Our school is a "School of Choice" within the Fort Worth ISD district and parents have to fill out an application to be considered. With this in mind, our parents are involved in our students' educational careers.

Our students thrive in the Montessori learning environment and display a love of learning.

In today's teaching environment, technology and visual aids are absolutely imperative to assist in student's educational experience.

Our student population aligns with Fort Worth ISD's ethnicity and economic statistics. Most of our students come from the neighborhood surrounding our school and we are classified as a Title 1 school due to the large number of socioeconomic disadvantaged households.

My Project

I work at a school that is 65% economically disadvantaged. Providing these students opportunities outside of the classroom is a passion of mine along with encouraging our girls to get involved in STEM activities. This year I created a robotics club who competed in Lego's First Lego League.

In today's environment, knowledge of technology is imperative.

My robotics team started a program where they are mentoring 2nd through 4th graders on building and programming robots using Lego's WeDo 2.0 kits. We were able to purchase 2 kits through fundraising but where overwhelmed by the number of students who wanted to be part of this program.

We need more kits to accommodate all the students who have shown an interest in attending our after school program so I am asking the wonderful donors here to help support this endeavor.
