My students are eager third graders who really want an opportunity to learn at school each day. There is a large number of children who come from poverty in my classroom. They come from many different countries and speak many different languages.
Most of my students don't have books at home to read and enjoy.
The school is a STEM Academy, which means we focus on science, technology, engineering, and math. I try to engage my students in many hands-on, learning experiences.
My Project
In third grade, we start our year by writing personal narratives. It is important for the students to hear great mentor texts that showcase examples of personal narratives.
In third grade, one of our writing units is called writing personal narratives.
Students choose a small moment from their own life and write a story. The students will write, revise and edit their personal narratives.
My students need access to great mentor texts that show them how to write personal narratives. It is important that all students be immersed in reading books that show the type of writing they will be doing so they can can experience great examples of what their writing should resemble.
