My students need 29 mentor texts including "The Perfect Pet" and "Roller Coaster" to teach them the skills needed to write different text types and to teach them various types of author craft.
My students are working hard to read like writers and learn from them to craft their own stories. We are lacking the books we need to discover various qualities of different types of texts and techniques authors use.
I have 14 boys and 12 girls.
My district has various socio-economic backgrounds . . . many living in poverty. They are hard working and enjoy writing. If we miss Writer's Workshop, they get really upset. We are lacking books we need to serve as mentor texts. My students need to learn about writing by studying real authors and the techniques they use in their writing.
My Project
My students will be able to develop a love for writing. These books cover a wide range of text types and interests. They will help my students learn about writing and inspire them to write their own books. By studying real authors they can learn from them and try those techniques in their own writing.
This project is important to my class because these text types represent what my students need to be learning to address the learning standards for their age.
These books will foster learning that will help my students progress as writers. This type of learning helps students delve deeper in their writing and will help them work towards being ready for college.
