My students need these mentor texts! We have this amazing writing curriculum but the mentor texts don&'t come with it and we need these books to have as part of our class.
Every day our classroom starts with building community. I want every student to succeed and be a leader. Thomas Edison said "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." Getting these books will give us more tools to be successful
My students are rockstars (literally, that's the theme of our class).
You would fall in love immediately with their creativity, desire to learn and take in everything! I would invite you to come spend a day with us! They are developing as leaders of themselves, in our classroom and in our school. Our school is a 7 Habit Lighthouse school and one that develops leaders and looks for ways to find the leader in each and every child. Our school takes on the mentality that every student belongs to all of us and we all collaborate to invest in every student! We have a principal who sets the bar high so we all strive to be better. We have a staff that works together, using everyone's unique talents and strengths to be great! Our mission is I Lead, where we use Integrity, Love, Empowerment, Achievement and Discipline to inspire our students to be leaders!
My Project
We are provided with a wonderful curriculum for our writer's workshop, by Lucy Calkins, in our school district. The curriculum suggests all of these mentor texts to be used alongside the curriculum but we have to order them through the library system and sometimes they are not available or are already checked out. By being able to have these mentor texts always in our classroom, my students and I will have access always to these rich texts to use to give them the hands on examples for good writing. I am able to teach a mini lesson from our curriculum and our kids can look right at the texts as examples of the writing we are trying to emulate. It will also provide them with good reading material to develop their growth in reading as well as writing.
I will state again that, by being able to have these mentor texts always in our classroom, my students and I will have access always to these rich texts to use to give them the hands on examples for good writing.
