As the school counselor, I work with a number of students. Many of whom may not come to me feeling like they are able to rise to their highest level. But it really impresses me how, after receiving some guidance, they are able to put so much effort into their own wellbeing and elevate themselves, which shows in their classrooms, the hallways, and even in their homes.
My Project
Our school plans to make mental health a priority this October. To get the students involved, we plan to make green awareness ribbons that the staff and faculty will wear throughout the month. We will also give prizes to students that are practicing healthy coping skills, and prizes will include fidgets and such that can be used to self-soothe as needed.
This will help us to normalize mental health matters for the children, as well as make these issues more approachable, and even fun, for them.
