Welcome to my Special Education Classroom. I would like you to meet all of my students, but since you can't, here are a few words to describe them. - energetic, passionate, funny and inquisitive. They want to learn and grow, just like any middle schooler; however, they have many disadvantages due to their home life. Life is hard for these young kids. Most come to school tired, hungry and worried about family issues. Several are grieving the death of parents, health issues, hygiene issues, drug and alcohol addiction in the home, poor grades and no support at home due to incarcerated parents and more.
These kids deserve a calm and nurturing environment while at school in my classroom.
They deserve a place where they are safe, loved, nurtured and able to feel important and valued.
My Project
Students will be able to escape their world of chaos and disorganization by being a part of my classroom. Imagine walking into school as a young adolescent, these are not easy times these kids face, especially in this Title 1 school. They are yearning for a place to feel accepted and chosen. In my classroom, Students will experience Social Learning to promote positive relationships and communication. We will spend time in partner work and discussing how to problem solve and have meaningful conversations with others. This furniture will assist in creating a calm and nurturing learning environment. Students NEED to feel safe and nurtured by an environment that creates safety, calmness, caring and kindness, so different than the world they live in outside of my school. We can make a difference one student at a time when we work together and strive to change "their" world, one day at a time! LET'S MAKE A difference in the lives of these middle school students.
