This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of children having thoughts of suicide and experiencing depression, and Anxiety has nearly doubled as compared to the years before the pandemic. Also, one in five California high school students has considered suicide in the last 12 months. Our students although resilient, needs support to get back on track, and we believe that can be accomplished through on-site Calming and Wellness Center. The items requested, will help us complete our center. The furniture and lighting will allow for a safe, quiet, place where students can come and take a time out, when feeling stressed and anxious, or over-whelmed due to sensory overload. The student will be provided with one on one support until they are able to return to baseline and ready to resume learning. Anxiety has been a major issue on campus, since the return of in person teaching, making it difficult for many students to even come to school. Youth are 21 times more likely to receive access to the mental health services they want and need when mental health, and wellness services are provided at school. This will allow us to have a one stop shop of services for students and their families.
