Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school’s goal is to become the first California Distinguished School in our district. We want to make this our year! Even though we are moving from learning remotely, we believe we can motivate students to grow through standards-based instruction enhanced by Social Emotional Learning. This past year has not been an easy time for our kids.
Our district is the second most underprivileged school district in the nation.
Students come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community. These past months have made them even more isolated.
Some students learn when presented with several iterations of the same concept. There are many learning styles in my classroom, but sometimes one learning style is not enough. I can reach more of my students by allowing students that have mastered the concept to share. This gives my highest achieving students a sense of accomplishment, solidifies learning, and allows them to contribute to the community. To maximize the understanding of this need, I want to give my students a solid way to share what they have learned with their classmates.
My Project
These kits will allow my students to use and grasp the scientific method by engaging them while they learn. Concepts like adaptation will allow students to discover on their own with guidance rather than facts to memorize.
Discovering the concepts on their own helps my students to solidify their understandings.
As they practice their problem-solving skills, their interest in science will grow exponentially! Students will learn more about the scientific method, explore aerodynamics, and animal adaptations in line with Next Generation Science Standards for this year.
Curiosity will rule the day as their new knowledge guides them on their journey for success in understanding the scientific method and the concepts they will need in the future.
