In a low-income, Latin & Mexican American population of Chicago, I educate students that have hearts of gold. I teach in a school where the students come to school to receive an education and to be safe from the crime in their neighborhood. They support one another to be successful, work in groups, and share in each other's glory. My students are truly on the path to success. They are exceptional thinkers and have a truly inspiring work ethic.
As a member of the school and community, I do my best to support my students and provide them with the best possible experiences and learning opportunities through music.
Our school provides the students with experiences in various after-school clubs, and a fulfilling experience in the fine arts (media, art, and music). However, we are low on funds and resources. These students should have access to instruments and materials in order to achieve a true fine arts experience. I come to you with hopes to bring the best educational experiences to my students. Will you be the reason they are successful?
My middle school music students study rhythm and pitch throughout their educational experience. However, they need a way to connect what they are doing to future performance opportunities. I always hear questions such as: What can music do for me? What careers can I partake in? That is where melodicas come in!
By providing melodicas for the music room, my students will have a way of connecting notes and rhythms to music careers!
What if a student wants to pursue a performance career? Melodicas are a keyboard instrument what not only function like a piano, but develop air support! What if a student needs a way to earn scholarship money? Many collegiate bands provide scholarships, and melodica allows for students to develop instrumental skills that can segway into other instrument learning!
My students need a fun, encouraging way to prepare for their future. Will you be part of their success?
