My students are eager to get their hands into art for the first time in a long time at our school. They were apprehensive in the art room at first, but they’re now ready to learn! They are bright and excited for discovering, investigating, and dreaming through the arts. Students are eager to get into every medium- their highest interests seem to be paint and clay.
Due to poverty in the area, this is a great opportunity to expand their minds through art.
They have already built skills in analyzing and creating art. They just need further tools and materials to further develop.
For the 5th grade, this will be the only time they get to experience art before moving into middle school. Many students have admitted to not wanting to take art later on. This is a fantastic chance to reach students who are at all level of talent and ability.
My Project
My students love to work with mixed media- fabric, yarn, paint. I have asked for different tools- crochet hooks and looms -to help them expand their skills in the three dimensional arts. They especially love to work independently and using books to help them as a resource for drawing, painting, and creating.
Students love the arts and love to explore mixed media- especially when combining them all together in fabulous ways.
Students needs to develop sewing skills early on. Students need to develop three dimensional skills beyond the simple swipe or tap on a screen. 3rd through 5th grade students will learn how to quilt, crochet, sew, felt, and weave.
