My students come from a wide geographic area as our school district is made up of 9 small towns and the many miles of rural area between them. With such a wide geographic area, we have a wide range of student interests. Many of our students are showing an interest in working in computers as a career, but they need the chance to learn the skills they will need.
In an effort to increase problem-solving skills as well as prepare students for an ever-changing world, we are increasing the number of STEM classes students have available.
My students enjoyed taking Computer Programming last year and look forward to taking a second programming class as well as Introduction to Engineering this year. They are excited to see our STEM career and technical education program grow going into our second year.
My Project
My students have started learning about programming and robotics and have designed several projects they would like to create. Micro:Bits are wonderful tools for my students because they can be used on many different devices and support many different coding languages. My most advanced students and my beginners can all use the same device!
From automatic fish feeders and robot cars to musical instruments and alarm clocks, my students have planned many tasks for the Micro:Bit to do.
They have even worked with our elementary students to plan future projects they can do together. These all-in-one kits would help my high school students build their projects, but also bring STEM down to the basic level for our younger generation.
