I am an occupational therapist working in the public school system with students receiving special education services. This project would provide supplies to address needs in the areas of pre-writing skills, cognition/ problem solving, and sensory/ seating. I am a firm believer of providing dynamic seating options in the classroom! Some students need to move more than others, and dynamic seating provides movement opportunities to appropriately regulate arousal levels to improve attention and work performance.
Children perform best academically when motivated, so I aim to address skill areas through fun activities!
In addition to meeting sensory-based seating needs, these resources would definitely add fun options to my therapy "bag of tricks!"
As a therapist who works closely with special education staff, I provide strategies to implement in the classroom to meet individual students' needs. Each student is unique, and what works for one student might not necessarily work for another student. This project will provide additional dynamic seating options for special needs students to help meet sensory needs which, as a result, increases focus and classroom participation. In addition to dynamic seating options, this project includes a few activities to address various skills areas in fun, motivating ways. Like adults, children put forth more effort to complete challenging tasks when it is presented in a fun way!
