Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my classroom, we are a family that is made up of forty-five, creative, little thinkers that come to school enthusiastic about learning. We are part of a Title One school in Houston, TX, where all students receive free lunch and breakfast. The majority of my students come from socially disadvantaged households with single-parent households, where they struggle to make ends meet. Regardless of those difficulties, my students always come to class happy and eager to learn new things. I would like to provide the best opportunities that my students can have to be successful and give them tools that will help them be productive members of society.
It have been months since Harvey but most of my students and their families were effected by Hurricane Harvey.
This has been a unique school year and I am trying my best to make their Kinder experience a positive and happy year despite everything they have been through. Sometimes school is the only place my students feel safe, comfortable and loved. As an educator, I feel that learning should be fun, engaging and hands-on. I want to do my best at making this possible for my students.
My Project
It is important that we do our best to accommodate all students' learning styles and needs so that they are successful not only in the classroom, but throughout life. Students in my classroom need flexible seating options such as wobble mats and balance balls to help accommodate their specific learning style and sensory discomfort. It is beneficial for those students that enjoy moving while learning while sitting on a flex balance ball or mat.
These materials will allow my students the opportunity to move around while being seated, which is less distracting to others and everyone is learning with minimal interruptions.
The giant visual model chart will be used in whole group and workstations to help reinforce skills such as counting on a number line and addition/subtraction in the ten frames. The giant, magnetic dominoes are a great resource that can be used by my students to practice multiple skills such as composing, adding, counting and comparing sets of numbers. The self inking coin stamps is another great tool that my students will be using to practice coins. These stamps will be used in math stations and whole group. It is my intentions to make sure all students needs are met and they can apply the skills that they have learned. These materials will help make that goal possible and the learning process more engaging and fun.
