Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my thirty fourth-grade students are English Language Learners or reclassified second language learners from low income, immigrant families who have very limited access to resources that will increase reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Many of my students have full-time working parents who make ends meet but are unable to stretch the time to give the necessary academic support.
My students are eager learners, filled with energy and enthusiasm for new and engaging activities!
They look forward to improving in academics while learning new concepts on a daily basis.
My Project
The Microsoft Surface Go tablet and keyboard will allow students to publish their writing, complete research assignments, and go on to educational websites to strengthen/practice concepts in English language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Learning how to type, create, and research are very necessary skills for a child's future.
They also need to have computer skills to complete the Common Core standardized test at the end of the school year. Many of my students lack these skills because they do not have technology in their home. Unfortunately, we also lack resources in our school to provide enough computers for every child to use. We currently have two desktops in the classroom and would like to have an additional computer for my 30 students to rotate, using it on a weekly basis. The ability to use technology is a transferable skill that will benefit them for a lifetime.
