My students need early chapter books to meet their reading needs. They also need two additional Kindles to allow them to work on literacy goals within center stations.
Do you remember a time when you participated in a class? Maybe it was a woodworking, art, dance, workout, or musical lesson. There are always those students who easily rise beyond the lesson and those who work really hard to master just the basics. This is my students when it comes to reading.
My students are a very motivated group of students from small farming community outside of the Twin Cities.
They always want to learn more and they continually push themselves to work harder and continue growing. This attitude has brought them to incredible places and I am continually trying to expand my classroom offerings to satisfy their curiosity and embrace their growth mindset!
My Project
Currently, my students use three Kindles in our classroom. They have primarily allowed me to differentiate instruction for struggling students by helping them build math and handwriting skills and through sight word acquisition but three Kindles does not allow my class as a whole to reap the benefits of the technology.
With two more Kindles, all students will be able to have one station at math and literacy devoted to technology. Everyone can use the Kindles everyday! They will each be able to work on our skills of the week and increase technological awareness.I can also pull the Kindles into small group instruction where we can work on reading comprehension.
A large group of my students are working above grade level and many are craving chapter books. Some however are not quite ready for this reading step. So they need early chapter books like Henry Mudge, Little Bear and Amelia Bedelia to bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books.
By donating to this project you are helping to ensure that all students in my classroom have access to technology and books at their independent reading levels.
You are also helping to ensure that my students meet their personal reading goals and are engaged in learning through books and technology!
