They are inquisitive, spontaneous and always wanting to try something new.
Our Illinois school is Title I, with 63% of students coming from low income families, and 16% being English Language Learners. More than half of my students are below grade level in reading. Many students struggle with focusing on assignments and working in the classroom. This year my teammate and I are introducing a new reading curriculum and structure. With the new structure comes a need for additional materials. I cannot wait to see the success rate of my students skyrocket after implementing these materials in the classroom!
My Project
This year my school is introducing a new reading and writing curriculum. With this new curriculum comes a need for a new assessment system. The BAS or Benchmark Assessment System is a highly recommended program from the creators of our new curriculum. With the BAS my team partner and I will be able to more individually and accurately assess our students.
The BAS provides us with materials for all reading levels to more accurately identify where exactly our students fall.
With this information we are able to better differentiate our teaching and student learning in our classroom.
We are going through a major shift in how we organize our libraries, assess our students and teach in the classroom. I would really like to be able to incorporate this detailed and child specific piece to our classroom. After all isn't the whole purpose of teaching to meet the specific needs of the child?
