My Students
I love seeing students sift through brand new books. Their faces light up as they share book titles with one another.
The library is the heart of our school. Students are fortunate to have a library and media specialist. It sends a message that this room is special. It is important to us.
Books in the classroom library are difficult to keep. I am committed to letting them take them home knowing I will have to find ways to replace those that are not returned.
My Project
The only president formally studied in elementary school is George Washington. I made a list of everything my fifth graders knew about presidents and first ladies. It was very limited, so I set out to make a change.
Students craved information on United States Presidents and First Ladies. The Who Was book series was in high demand. We just didn't have that many in our school library. This project will provide fifth graders with rich reading choice on a very important topic.
When you find a topic that motivates students, you rally around it, and provide them with what they need to be successful.
