I will begin my first year of teaching in August. I have not yet met my students, but I do know that first graders are creative, active, and excited to learn new things about people and the world. Just like any first grader, my students will all have interests in their classmates and other people. Therefore, a lot of their learning will come from each other through class discussion and whole group. A classroom rug will better meet their needs because it will provide a place where we can have our whole group lessons and morning meetings.
My Project
A classroom rug/carpet will make a difference in my students' learning because it will provide a place for my students to meet for whole group learning and morning meetings. Children need routines and structure, and having a designated place in the classroom to have whole group lessons and morning meetings will secure classroom routines and procedures. A classroom rug will also create effective classroom management because it will allow transitions to run smoothly.
Students need time throughout the day to sit on the floor next to their peers.
It can become very hard for children to stay engaged when they are sitting in their chair at their desk/table without movement or a change in seating. I believe a classroom rug is vital to a healthy classroom environment, and my students will benefit greatly from having one!
