My Students

I believe that learning cannot happen in isolation. Brainstorming and discussing your thoughts with someone is vital. I want my students to leave my classroom with an understanding of other cultures and be able to collaborate with others to solve problems and be productive citizens.

My students are kind to one another and have a thirst for knowledge.

They may not always do the right thing or be 100% but they are learning to be leaders in their own lives. Our school is in a rural area where many families struggle. This is evident in the large percentage of free and reduced lunches at our school. That being said they come to class eager and excited about what we are doing in the classroom. I am proud of the people they are becoming.

My Project

As I have said, we live in a rural area where many families struggle to make ends meet. This struggle can limit the opportunities my students have to experience things like museums or live reenactments. Through the donations we receive from you all of my students will be able to travel to Medieval Times to experience an 11th century festival. Through this experience my students will be able to make valuable connections to what we are learning in the classroom. Seeing the jousts, sword fights, and partaking in the food of the time period will be an invaluable piece of their education.

Visiting Medieval Times will be a once in a lifetime experience for some of my students.

This experience could be the one that sparks a deeper love of learning or pushes them to explore history more on their own. Students never forget the experiences that they have. Seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting history can have a huge impact on their understanding of it.
