I am a 7th grade history teacher at a school with a very complex student population. More than half of our 850 students are on a free and/or reduced-price meal plan. Almost 15% are English language learners, and just over 10% receive special education services.
Lack of funding for public education can leave students missing out on opportunities, Chromebooks can allow for exploratory learning and virtual field trips to the medieval world.
It is incredibly important to engage students with a variety of choices in their learning. In my classroom we do hands-on activities, simulations, and project-based learning units where technology can be an integral and beneficial part of these learning processes.
I recently had a successful Donors Choose project that was funded with the help of 23 donors and Google.org matching their donations. This allowed me to provide 8 Chromebooks for my students. Since that was my first project I was limited to the amount of donations I could apply for so I am asking for help to get 7 more Chromebooks so I can have half of a class set.
With 15 Chromebooks I can have students work in partners or set up multiple stations.
My Project
After a recent successful Donors Choose project I was able to provide 8 Chromebooks to my students. I am hoping to be able to get 7 more for a half class set. My 21st century learners need to be able to collaborate and work together. Having a half class set will allow my students to work in partners and contribute to the learning process.
Students enjoy investigating, researching, and expressing what they've learned in a variety of ways, with these seven ASUS Chromebooks and a charging cart, I can allow them to get their creative minds flowing.
These Chromebooks also provide accommodations to my students with special needs and those who are English language learners.
