Help me give my students a bag of flour and a bag of yeast and the know-how to make bread. Studying the Medieval times is a great opportunity to create 29 bakers to feed 29 families.
The 7th grade at our school is an amazing group of kids! They are intellectually curious, hardworking, and creative. I have been really impressed with how well they work together, especially when we do hands-on projects.
Hands-on projects are an entirely different beast this year.
We can't share materials or work side-by-side at this time. We have a bread oven at our school that students built, and we used to make and share bread. The oven is not running this year. Nobody is kneading dough, but many are needing bread.
Our community has been hard hit by the economic fallout of the pandemic, and there are hungry children and families. Our school turned into a community food distribution center during the shut down, and now we want do do more.
This project's aim is to give students the know-how and materials to make bread at home. I want to teach my students about Medieval bread making and send them home with boxes of ingredients so they can make bread to sustain their families.
My Project
Well-fed students learn better. Students who learn to help feed their families have a vital way of ensuring food security in this crazy time. I want each of my 7th graders to learn how to make Medieval style breads that they can bake at home to feed their families.
We are going to study how Medieval people worked together to bake bread to feed each other.
Help fund a project that will teach kids the ancient art of bread making.
We can't break bread at school, but we can give kids the skills to bake and break at home. This project will give kids the skills to contribute to the food security of their community.
