My students need 5 Sphero robots to create a maze that they complete in a competition.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The most obvious distinguishing factors about my school is that its two single-gender public schools for young men and women, we serve 750 students in grades 6-12. We are a Title 1 school, over 98% are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and lastly, the fact that these are schools in a low economic urban setting only amplifies the importance of what happens inside the school walls. Our students come from low-income families who do not have the essential resources available to them to support learning. It is our responsibility to provide access to these tools, we want to keep these students enthusiasm for learning blooming and encourage their motivation to obtain knowledge.
Studies have shown that school libraries are vital to student success.
I want my students to have the resources tools to propel them into amazing STEM careers. My students all have different challenges but they're all striving for the same goals, an education and the bright future it affords.
One of the challenges as a Media Specialist is the students don't find relevance in their own lives. Using these Sphero robots is one way I want to help with their engagement by seeing their research and questioning translate into real life action.
My students need a sphero robot that will be used for my students to work on projects in STEM classes that help apply the skills they learn in the real world.
They will be able to use their math skills to calculate how the robots work and then go to science class and use them in their experiments. Last but not least, use their engineering class to help with the technological programing of these robots. Doing things like analyzing how a robot can be used to clean up their rooms.
