My students need Hot Dots to give them independent practice on testing skills, comprehension, spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and main idea. In order to use these skill cards, they will need Hot Dot mechanical pens. I am also asking for flexible seating such as bean bags and other seating.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students come from low income families, and qualify for free lunches. Several of my students live with grandparents, or live in a single parent home. My students are eager to learn, love technology and books, and they love to listen to read-alouds. My students’ reading levels at the beginning of 2017-2018 school year were in a range from 1.0 to 2.8, and they should be at a 3.0 reading level at the beginning of third grade. In my classroom, I encourage independent reading time by allowing them to have a book buddy (which they love to have a stuffed animal to hold while they read) to read to/with.
My goal as a literacy teacher is to foster a love for reading in my students, by setting up our classroom in a comfortable by offering optional seating areas and a well stocked library with books the students will love to read.
I want to give them every opportunity to read, which will in turn, increase their reading levels by encouraging learning, and get them to their personal best reading level.
My Project
the majority of my students are reading below a 3rd grade reading level. I am asking for the flexible seating options to set up an environment in my classroom where the students will enjoy reading and working independently or in small groups, while improving their reading skills. The large bean bags, seats and pillows will give the students comfortable seating options while reading and working independently.
The Hot Dots are a popular and fun way for the students to practice their decoding phonics skills, grammar, spelling, and main ideas/parts of a story.
These skills will help the students improve in literacy, which will also help them become better readers, better spellers, and better writers.
