Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a Philadelphia Pre-K classroom. My students are very curious and exploratory in everything that they do and interact with within the school. I have the honor each day facilitating them on their journey of discovery and understanding as they explore things that are new to them. They are fascinated by the things they discover and our ability to create at such a young but vitally important age. As they grasp new ideas it gives me great pleasure in seeing the many “Ah-Ha” moments that occur throughout the year.

My Project

Students in PreK need hands-on materials in order to learn. To put it simply, my students learn best through doing! They enjoy pretending to be doctors, construction workers, and chefs. They talk to each other and learn how to share items as they navigate their learning environment. Students need time to enhance their spoken language as a step in their process of learning to read and write. The materials will help my students learn different types of measurement using hands-on activities. They will also use the materials to work on their socialization skills by using the items with classmates that mimic real-life tools/equipment.
