We are a Title I school in rural Arizona with over eight hundred fifty students. Our students range in age from five to thirteen. We are in our second year of a three-year transition plan to becoming a full STEM school. Our students are very excited about STEM.
"I haven't failed.
I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work," Thomas Edison. This quote fits our STEM program because we are teaching our students to persevere as their projects might fail the first time. We use the Engineering Design Process to engage our students in the STEM journey.
My Project
Our middle school students need these tech materials in order to do more complicated projects. The Arduino kits will be used by both our middle school core classes and our Technology electives teacher. The core classes will be able to learn about forces and motion by creating a machine that tracks speed of Hot Wheels as they travel down a track.
In Tech class, they will use the Arduino and Makey Makey kits to create robotic items that they can program to do different tasks.
These kits work with the Scratch programming website that the students are currently learning to use.
