My Students

Every year, I have a wonderful group of students. Most work hard in understanding the concepts that I teach them. Alas, some students struggle with these subjects. One thing I love about teaching is giving my students an opportunity to learn using hands-on experience.

I love it when students use hands-on activities and suddenly their eyes light up and their confidence soars.

They finally understand. In 5th-grade there are many hard lessons that students need to learn in just one year. With determination, grit, and perseverance my students can learn and succeed.

My Project

Just like the Mountain Men Rendezvous, my students will be able to use hands-on measurement tools in order to earn beaver points. For example, at one station the students will create a paper airplane and get one chance to fly it. Then they will measure the distance in meters. Next, they will need to figure out how many Kilometers, millimeters and centimeters their airplane has flown. I have many stations set up for metric and customary measurements. Many of these stations will have real-life story problems for the students to solve. I believe this will help the students remember their measurements and measurement conversions.
