In my class, students have the opportunity to challenge their brains in new ways that extend far beyond the limits of a traditional classroom! Students in my class have been identified as gifted and talented, which means they have high intellect and perform well in traditional academic areas.
My students really enjoy having rigorous opportunities in our gifted classroom, to take them to that 'next level' of learning that they deeply desire.
They love having opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math and literature in unique, interesting ways. These students are highly motivated to acquire new skills and work hard when new opportunities are presented to them.
My Project
Building balsa wood structures is a favorite activity in our classroom, and balsa wood cutting tools help make angles precise to improve structural integrity. Rulers ensure precise measurements, and calculators will help us to get the angles just right!
Engineering tasks reinforce science and mathematics concepts in concrete ways, and that leads to life-long understandings.
With adult scissors, balsa wood cutting tools, calculators, and rulers, my students will be able to build load-bearing structures, then test the strength of their structures by applying weights. Through this trial and error process, students will develop engineering design principles and enduring math understandings. Thank you for considering our project for your donation!
