Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"I forget what a pattern is." Kids have a lot to keep straight these days, but math concepts are among the most essential skills they will need to learn in school.
My students are a diverse group of economically-challenged English language learners from SW Denver.
They love coming to school, and I do everything I can to help make our classroom a warm and motivating place for them. Our school focuses on math success, so we have been working very hard on mastering the basics through our daily calendar work, but our supplies are homemade and falling apart after the year of use.
My Project
I am requesting two math skills calendars that would be used during our morning meetings every day. The calendars would be used to reinforce and practice math skills daily- the kinds of math skills that are foundational for higher order problem solving, such as estimation, pattern work, coin counting, place value work, identifying days of the week, and they even include mental math problems! I would use one calendar for the 1st hundred days of school, and then the other calendar with the harder skills for the last few months of school.
These calendars may seem like a simple request, but they are incredibly important parts of an elementary classroom.
The students gather around the calendar for morning meeting every day- it is our first academic task, and the most powerful in the day as the students are fresh and eager to work hard. Being able to master these basic math skills would help arm my students to conquer much harder tasks in the day and in real life! Please consider donating to this important grant! Thank you!
